Be cautious of what you LOVE, because it defines who you BECOME.
After watching certain TV shows, listening to certain songs or podcasts, or being around certain people, it’s easy to find myself mimicking the behaviors of the things/people I love the most.
Love is a wonderful thing, and God allows us to enjoy many aspects of life here on earth. But Scripture gives many CAUTIONS to loving—especially when it involves things of this world.
Hosea packs a punch when it reminds us that God’s people became DETESTABLE. Why? Because of the things they loved (Hos. 9:10). They were worshipping idols and giving of their bodies to worldly perversions.
1 John continues with striking words, “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is NOT in him.” (2:15)
In our pursuit of holiness, let’s focus our love and attention upon our Heavenly Father—the one who grants us eternal life & significance. Let’s lay aside the worldly loves that have distracted us from the main goal: knowing Christ & making Him known.
